Evelyn Waugh’s BBC Broadcasts Show a Great Wit at Work
This collection of Evelyn Waugh’s various BBC broadcasts between 1938 and 1963 is well worth the weak dollars you’ll spend to have it imported from Britain. The most delicious moment comes in an interview he gave on the program “Frankly Speaking,” in which his interlocutors are constantly jabbing away — “Do you like people, generally, when you meet them in trains or buses?” — and Waugh zings them handily: “I’ve never traveled in a bus, and I never address a stranger in a train.”
