Grant and Zhang Get Lost: Hugh Grant will bumble his way into Ziyi Zhang’s heart in Lost for Words, a comedy that Susanne Bier (Things We Lost in the Fire) is directing for Universal. Story centers on a British film star who falls for a flirty Chinese interpreter on a movie set, only to realize he actually loves the film’s director (Zhang), but can only express his feelings through the interpreter. Sony Smurfs the Smurf Smurfily: Columbia and Sony Pictures Animation are bringing a live-action/animated Smurfs to a theater near you. Shrek 2 and 3’s David Stem and David Weiss are in negotiations to write the script, which better discuss whether Gargamel wanted to turn Smurfs into gold, or just eat them. [Variety]

Irons and Allen do Impressions: Tony winners Jeremy Irons and Joan Allen will come back to Broadway in the world premiere of Michael Jacobs’s Impressionism in spring 2009. As if two Tony winners aren’t enough, Jack O’Brien will direct. Tucker Looks in the Mirror: 2929 Productions has snatched up Jeremy Gough’s spy-thriller script, A Forest of Mirrors, for Shopgirl’s Anand Tucker to direct. The story follows a CIA agent traveling to Guatemala to investigate his brother’s death. [Variety]
