Good news for aspiring singers, dancers, and New York Times building-climbers: the Spider-Man musical, by Julie Taymor, Bono, and the Edge, is holding an open casting call for three roles. We had earlier speculated that Peter Parker and Mary Jane might be played by Across the Universe's Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood, who sang the roles in a December reading, but it looks like Taymor is casting a wider web for the parts.

In addition to Spidey and MJ, the show is also casting a third part, with this description:

Female, 25-35 years old [with] amazing rock vocals. Think Sinead O'Connor with a Middle Eastern/Bulgarian/Greek twist. Foreign, world music types are great, foreign accents are great.

This part seems likely to be the role of Arachne, described in a much earlier casting notice as a kind of chorus/spider spirit/dark goddess of vengeance, and easily the most Taymorian aspect of the show so far. Think you could be Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson, or "a dance partner in a charged and violent spiders' dance of death"? Get to the Knitting Factory on July 28!
