Over on David Edelstein's Projectionist blog, New York's film critic remembers his friend, seminal critic Manny Farber, who died this week in San Diego. "Manny could seem inscrutable yet was actually hyperprecise," Edelstein writes, "which is why we kept listening, unpacking his phrases, sure that whatever came out, no matter how gnomic, contained multitudes." We also are pleased to present a 1994 Edelstein profile of Farber the artist from the pages of New York, in which Edelstein asks Farber about his crucial essay "White Elephant Art vs. Termite Art" and Farber replies, "It's a good theory. I'm not dis-proud of it. Unreadable article, though."
