Reports from Comic-Con unanimously suggested that the clips Frank Miller showed from The Spirit were completely awful, provoking derisive laughter from the crowd. Of particular note was a fight in a pool of sewage, during which the Octopus hits the Spirit over the head with a toilet. Well, the footage has finally leaked, and it looks like shit. Literally! Like, there are little lumps of shit floating everywhere! The action is cartoony, Sam Jackson is even hammier than usual, the final joke is awful, and there are wacky Carl Stalling–ish sound cues when the Spirit gets hit in the crotch. Yikes.
