Following last week's hilarious announcement that work on 24's next season will take a monthlong hiatus, Fox is shutting down production on another show, this time Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, while scripts are rewritten. According to a spokesperson for the network, Whedon directed two of the show's three shot episodes — both of its pilots — and, consequently, hasn't had enough time in the writers' room, so he asked Fox for the break and not the other way around. Also, the rep stresses, since the Dollhouse doesn't debut until mid-season, this delay, like 24's, won't change any air dates, but he refused to say how it might affect the show's probably imminent cancellation.
