Sure, everybody knew that The Amazing Race would probably beat the better, more-culture-driving American Idol last night for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program (just as it had for the previous five years), but who could possibly have foreseen Jeff Probst's inane victory over Ryan Seacrest in the newly created Outstanding Reality Host category? Isn't Seacrest widely acknowledged to be the master of the form? Isn't that why he hosts practically every show on television? And isn't his job — steering the massive, unwieldy ship that is American Idol two, sometimes three, nights a week on live television — way harder than Probst's, which basically amounts to turning up to Survivor's Tribal Councils and picking names out of a box? This is a travesty.
