The good news for Bill Maher? He hasn’t been struck by lightning. The bad news? He hasn’t been hit by anyone else.

So far, everybody’s treating Religulous, Maher's satirical assault on faith, with Christian charity (the Metacritic score hovers at a decent 55), box-office numbers are fine enough ($13,000 at two theaters), and nobody's bashing him with any real zealotry.

Even the protests have been “lame," as Maher admitted at the Toronto Film Festival. And the Catholic League couldn't get too riled up: Spokeswoman Susan Fani said that Maher is "as dogmatic in his hatred,” adding that the comic is “trying to make people look stupid." That's hardly bringing down God’s wrath!
