‘The Jewel of Medina’ Rushed to Early Release
10/2/08 at 3:04 PM
Beaufort Books, the American publisher of Sherry Jones's controversial novel The Jewel of Medina, have pushed up the release date of the book from October 15 to Monday in the hope of reducing the chance of violence from Muslim extremists. The decision comes not long after a firebomb attack on the headquarters of Gibson Square, the British publisher of the novel about the early life of Aisha, wife of the prophet Muhammad. Will the plan work? Most likely, according to the FBI, who have assured the president of Beaufort Books that they have not been targeted by any known groups. And if this safety-enhancing move just happens to get the book on the shelves while the press is hot, well, hey! [Yahoo!/AP] Earlier: Firebomb Attack Will Not Deter British Publisher
