Today in Internet-Radio Royalty Fun

  • 10/2/08 at 10:00 AM

Last month, it looked like Pandora may go the way of the Muxtape, thanks to royalty rates that were eating up 70 percent of its gross revenue. But luckily, the hardworking folks in Congress found time for the important issues this week, passing a bill that will allow Pandora and other Internet-radio sites to renegotiate royalty rates. If Bush signs off on the bill, the radio sites will have until February to work out new deals with SoundExchange, which is the royalty-collection agency and not, contrary to popular belief, the name of a Duran Duran side project.
