Variety's Todd McCarthy is the first critic out of the gate with a review of Seven Pounds, and boy, oh boy, it's the biggest evisceration of a Will Smith vehicle since Wild Wild West. Not only will it "infuriate anyone predominantly guided by rationality and intellect," but McCarthy also blasts Smith for "embracing [his character's] saintlike status in a way so convincing that it proves disturbing as an indication of how highly this anointed superstar may regard himself."
