Gypsy to Cease Entertaining You in January

It's hardly news that not everything's coming up roses on Broadway these days, and according to Playbill, the Broadwaypocalypse has just claimed Gypsy as its latest victim. Explained producer Roger Berlind, "Though we originally announced that Gypsy would play its final performance on March 1, 2009, due to these uncertain financial times my partners and I have made the difficult decision to close instead on January 11, 2009." In addition to being cost-effective, the move will allow Tony-winning stars Patti LuPone, Laura Benanti, and Boyd Gaines more time to polish their trophies. [Playbill]
