Several notable things happened on this weekend's Hugh Laurie–hosted episode of Saturday Night Live, including Fred Armisen's David Patterson impression, Amy Poehler's near-tears "Weekend Update" farewell, and some weird sketch with singing lamps — but all were completely overshadowed by blogger-musician Kanye West's two hilarious, ear-bending musical performances. Standing in front of a huge plasma screen that made him look like Coldplay's iTunes commercial, he dispensed with the Auto-Tune, improvised new lyrics for "Heartless," and generally sang in a way that would turn even the most well-behaved household pet into an ungovernable killer.
