For American Buffalo's early close, some blame its badness, others cite the economy. Michael Riedel today posits that it was all Buffalo playwright David Mamet's fault: "He never attended a rehearsal, didn't see a performance and refused to do any press for it. He met the stars … but when he was asked if he'd be photographed with them, he balked." Meanwhile, he was "hanging out with the cast of Speed-the-Plow over at the Barrymore" and praising their show in a Times editorial. What's up with that? "It's long been rumored that he makes very little money from American Buffalo." [NYP]
