Maria Bello to Break Thumbs on HBO

Excerpt from I’ll Replace You (2008)

Yo Maria!: Maria Bello has signed on to develop and star in a new series for HBO. The as-yet-untitled project will be written by Gary Lennon (The Shield) and cast Bello as a woman who’s forced into a life of crime to support her three teenage sons after her husband is killed. Naturally, she must use her sons as henchmen, which, naturally, starts them down a destructive path. Aspiring New Jersey actors and pomade salesmen are thrilled. [Variety]

Jack’s Back: The new Jack Ryan pic has finally got a writer. Hossein Amini, who most recently penned Mickey Rourke’s Killshot, will write Ryan’s origin story, which doesn’t come from a Tom Clancy novel. The all-American do-gooder has yet to be cast, but given his abilities to replace Ben Affleck in love, Marc Anthony seems like the perfect choice to replace him on the screen. [HR]

Court is in Order: Production company 2000 AD announced on its website that it’s remaking Judge Dredd. Along with Rebellion and DNA films, the company behind Sunshine and 28 Days Later, 2000 AD plans to start production in 2009. That’s all they’re saying. [2000 AD Online]

Magically Judicious: Arcana Studios is developing a feature version of comic-book series Paradox, which focuses on a detective using unorthodox methods of investigation in a world powered by magic. The script was written by Ruth Fletcher Gage and Christos Gage, who also wrote the three-issue limited series. The Gages are veterans of other comic series and, more importantly, Law and Order: SVU. So expect lots of sex crimes. [Variety]

Pastry Chefs: Rev Run’s daughters Vanessa and Angela are leaving the house and, like most well-adjusted 20-somethings, getting a reality show. MTV’s Daddy’s Girls will follow them as they relocate from New York to Los Angeles to start a showroom for their sneaker line. Presumably there will be no scenes of Rev Run in the bathtub, so there’s really no reason to watch. [Cinemablend]
