Devendra Banhart has shaved off his beard, and on "Forget About Him," he seems to have lost some of his folk-freakiness in the process. Instead, he sounds more like a garage-rock revivalist (though with more gender confusion than your average Nuggets band). The track's a cover, to be released on Loving Takes This Course: A Tribute to Kath Bloom; even though Bloom was best known for her work with avant-gardist Loren Mazzacane Connors, her material pulls Banhart back into the mainstream a bit — and the results are fantastic.
