Despite being "the wittiest, angriest, most exacting and most desolate work of fiction" the The New York Times Book Review has "yet had about life in New York and London after the World Trade Center fell," and "one of the most remarkable post-colonial books" James Wood has ever read, Joseph O'Neill's Netherland, the Susan Lucci of greatest-ever post-colonial novels, published last May, has only now just won its first major prize: the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.
