First Bruno Footage: Baby Liposuction and Gay Cage-Fighting

Approximately nine hours ago, our TweetDeck exploded following the first public screening of twenty minutes of early footage from Bruno at South by Southwest in Austin last night. How was it? That all depends on how you feel about Sacha Baron Cohen asking parents to allow their babies to undergo liposuction for a modeling job, or tricking rural Americans into attending a "cage-fighting match" that turns into a naked, man-on-man make-out session. Since both of those things sound great to us, we're quite looking forward to this.

Says HR:

Bruno begins in the footage by saying he wants to be the biggest Austrian celebrity since Hitler.

Says Anne Thompson:

He adopts a black baby, Madonna-style. In the footage, the very fey Austrian-accented Bruno auditions a series of (real) parents. One after another agrees without flinching to let him do terrible, dangerous things to their children — from extreme dieting and liposuction to letting them pose as Jesus on the cross — just to get a job. Bruno takes his baby on a talk show with a majority of African Americans in the audience. Somehow he manages to outrage them. It's hilarious.

Says Ain't It Cool News:

Basically this segment had Bruno interviewing these showbiz moms about their 3 year old daughters, asking progressively more bizarre questions, probing to find out just where the line was that these women would not cross. ... Can your daughter handle sudden acceleration? How about sudden stops? Would it be okay to take out their car seat if it was needed? How would your daughter handle being dropped four stories? "I think she’d be a little scared at first, but she can do it."
Bruno asks how much one woman’s daughter weighs. He gets an answer… about 30 pounds. "I'm not looking for the Scarlett Johansson type, I’m looking for the Nicole Ritchie type … can your daughter lose 10 pounds in 7 days?" "We can try. I think she can do it." Would you consider liposuction? "If she can’t lose the weight in 7 days, we’d consider that as a last resort."

Says Austin 360:

Before long, Bruno has dressed up his baby in a “gayby T-shirt” and taken him to a TV talk show in Texas, which is filled with African Americans. Let’s just say they don’t look kindly upon the adoption, and things turn ugly. When the baby thing doesn’t turn out as Bruno had hoped, he morphs into another person, Straight Dave, the host of a TV wrestling show called Man-Slamming Maxout. But it seems as though Straight Dave still has a few latent urges lingering below. Let’s just say that the Straight Dave fans are in for a disappointment.

That last line is probably referring to this incident in Texarkana, Arkansas, last June, at which $1 beers were served to a rowdy audience and "two men stripped down to their underwear, kissed and rubbed on each other," according to police, who arrived to quell the ensuing riot. This movie is going to be awesome.
