On the same day we learn that the museum has just dropped $1 million on an Old Master, the Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced that it's eliminating 74 merchandising jobs — accounting for 27 percent of its full-time and 9 percent of its part-time retail staff — and that it'll likely need to trim as many as 250 positions before next July.
