Oliver: Week Two

Paul’s studying blackjack, but it’s Lord of the Flies that clues him in: Children are mean to the fat kid. Oliver is convinced that if he doesn’t tell his parents about his problems, they won’t fight. Mom thinks they should stay together for the kid — until she hears about dad’s new girlfriend, which somehow prompts Oliver to man up and stay at dad’s. The kid accidentally leaves his turtle behind: is this a clumsy symbol that Paul’s personal and professional lives are entwined?
