Paper Heart Trailer: Twee Overload

Paper Heart came out of this year's Sundance Film Festival with decidedly mixed reviews. While this faux documentary was able to capture the festival's Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award despite the fact that it didn't actually have a script, some onlookers described the film as the "a holocaust of twee." And while audiences will have to wait until the film is released on August 7 to decide for themselves, we will cop to being slightly concerned about the frightening number of sensitive-indie-film clichés that appear in this trailer: dioramas, quirky acoustic-guitar riffs, hoodies, and ironic outings to the bowling alley all make appearances here. Ostensibly, the plot tells the fictionalized tale of how real-life indie darlings Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi, who memorably played a stoned-to-the-bone sidekick of Seth Rogen's in Knocked Up, fell in lurve. Along the way, fellow Apatow stablemates Seth Rogen and Martin Starr also pop up to contribute cameo appearances. Let us know your take in the comments!
