Sasha Grey, star of Steven Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experience (which premiered last night at Tribeca), isn’t the first porn star to take a stab at crossing over into the mainstream. Indeed, it’s become almost obligatory for any self-respecting adult performer (and some not-so-self-respecting ones) to appear in non-porn media. Sometimes the results are brief but brilliant. (Who can forget Nina Hartley’s awesome turn as Little Bill’s adulterous porn-star wife in Boogie Nights?) Sometimes they’re not.
