What if you could have the flexibility and convenience of Amazon's successful e-reader in an enormous, unwieldy package? This Wednesday, claim reports, Amazon will hold a press conference at which Jeff Bezos is expected to announce a new, wide-screen Kindle that some believe (nobody we know) could save newspapers. With a larger screen, the thinking goes, elderly readers would be more easily able to enjoy their favorite cumbersome paper-based periodicals in a recognizable format than they would on one of those tiny Kindles you can carry without getting a hernia. So, sure, nobody thinks it'll actually save journalism, but we could see something like this having practical uses. We could finally get rid of all of our giant coffee-table books! And we suppose it would be nice to read one of Roberto Bolaño's sentences without having to scroll through quite so many pages.
