R.I.P. Dom DeLuise (1933–2009)

We're fairly certain that the history books will never recognize this as such, but back in 1981, when Cannonball Run first came out, we were thoroughly convinced that Dom DeLuise and Burt Reynolds were the single greatest comedic duo that we had ever laid eyes on (please note, we were but 7 years old at the time). We spent countless hours in the early- to mid-eighties watching and rewatching this movie (and its inferior sequel) on HBO, which aired these films (and Not Necessarily the News) in a seemingly endless loop. And while our comedic palates have refined considerably over the years, there's still something magical to us about the combination of DeLuise's patented blend of rotund-comedian slapstick and Burt Reynolds's bitchin' mustache. So, in honor of DeLuise's peaceful passing in a Los Angeles–area hospital at the age of 75, we really think you should take a moment to watch the following highlight reel from one of the silliest films ever released.

These outtakes from Cannonball Run are pretty classic, too.
