Hypnotic Loop of Khan Clip Calls Attention to the Genius of William Shatner

We’re still kind of pissed that J.J. Abrams didn’t want wasn’t able to find a way to work William Shatner into his Star Trek reboot, but thanks to Los Angeles–based video artist Daniel Martinico, Shatner’s wildly underrated talent as an actor is finally getting its rightful due. After watching the most famous clip from what is undoubtedly the best film in the Star Trek canon, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, Martinico decided to create a fifteen-minute video clip that traces the gamut of emotions running across Captain Kirk’s face in the span of roughly four seconds as he screams “Khaaaaan!” Currently running The project ran last year at the Machine Project gallery, located in Echo Park on the east side of Los Angeles, which led L.A. Weekly writer Mark Mauer to describe the hypnotic clip as “a never-ending loop that transforms the moment from one of anguish (or snickering for the the audience) into a meditation, maybe even a mantra.” While we are crossing our fingers that Martinico finds the time to bring this project to New York, this two-minute clip will have to suffice for the time being.
