Despicable Me Trailer: Despicable

  • 7/17/09 at 12:30 PM

The teaser trailer for Despicable Me — the July 2010 animated joint by the makers of the Ice Age movies that stars Steve Carell as a villain named Gru who wants to blow up the world — was released to jeers this week, mainly because Steve Carell, the only reason anyone would be interested in seeing this movie, isn't even in it (that last Hitchcockian bit most assuredly does not count). And let's not get us started on the negative Southern (and French!) stereotypes it does show. If this trailer were really representative of the film, and not, ahem, probably only the few parts of it already finished a year before release, then it wouldn't seem like they made a spinoff movie of just the fat people from Wall-E.
