Avatar Day Turns Out to Be More Like Avatar Hour, But We’re Still Psyched

Sorry, you’ll have to bring your own pizza.

In case you hadn’t heard, next week is bound to go down as the single greatest of your life (except, of course, if your name happens to be Quentin Tarantino). Not only does the third season of Mad Men debut on Sunday night, but the people at Fox and Imax are getting ready to launch fifteen minutes worth of the Movie That Will Forever Change Life As Our Species Knows It™ (a.k.a. Avatar) on a ravenous public. News of Avatar Day first broke during Comic-Con, but now that the momentous event is but a mere eight days away, some details about the unprecedented marketing ploy are starting to emerge.

According to the Los Angeles Times, more than 100 Imax screens nationwide will hold two FREE screenings of the footage from James Cameron’s latest opus, on August 21 at 6 and 6:30 p.m. Details about the locations of these screenings have yet to be released, but beginning at 3 p.m. EST on Monday, fans will be able to reserve tickets for these shows on the official Avatar site. If you plan on scoring some of these highly coveted free passes, we highly suggest you use the next four days to practice your speed-typing skills. Otherwise, get ready to crack open your piggy bank to spring for tix on Craigslist!
