My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done? Trailer: Werner Herzog Gets Lynched

  • 8/18/09 at 09:45 AM

Because there are only so many hours in David Lynch's day, Werner Herzog wrote and directed this Lynchian, Lynch-produced lo-fi thriller that looks a lot like Lynch's 2007 lo-fi thriller Inland Empire, just without the scary talking rabbits. My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done? tells the (partially) true story of an actor (Michael Shannon) cast in a Sophocles play who goes all Method and kills his mom (Inland Empire star Grace Zabrieskie) with an antique sword, much to the chagrin of his friend (Chloë Sevigny, in a role that, were this a real David Lynch movie, would've gone to Laura Dern). All dialogue is delivered in slow, Lynchian cadences, plus there's a standoff with a policeman (Willem Dafoe), some ostriches, and Verne Troyer, naturally. Is Werner Herzog turning into David Lynch? Doesn't that totally sound like the perfect setup for the Lynchiest David Lynch movie ever?
