When a breast-cancer diagnosis forced Maura Tierney to depart from NBC's Parenthood, the network first approached Emmy- and Oscar-winner Helen Hunt about taking on the role. However, according to Michael "Raisin Bran" Ausiello, "talks between the actress and NBC fell apart" (which is code for NBC's unwillingness to pay Hunt what she was asking).
