Invictus Trailer: Eastwood, Damon, and Freeman Join the Oscar Scrum

  • 10/28/09 at 09:00 AM

The trailer for Clint Eastwood's Invictus hit the Internet last night, and it looks just as Oscar-y as you'd probably hoped. In the film, Morgan Freeman stars as Nelson Mandela, the South African president who ends racism by demanding that Matt Damon win an important rugby match (which he does, meaning this thing should have a happy, feel-good ending sound tracked by loads of uplifting chanting). Freeman is at his saintliest, Damon's accent doesn't seem half bad, and as long as Mandela at no point commands any rugby players to get off his lawn, we bet the Academy will at least like Invictus more than it did Gran Torino.
