David Letterman is no idiot. He knows that admitting to an affair with an underling some thirty years his junior hasn't scored him many points with America's more wholesome households. And he knows those same households love Tom Hanks. Which is probably why Mr. Family Friendly himself will make a surprise appearance on the Late Show tonight (inasmuch as something that is released on video three hours before it happens can actually be a surprise).
