Man Survives Two Atomic Bombs, But Not a Meeting With James Cameron

Tsutomu Yamaguchi, the only known survivor of both atomic bombs dropped by the U.S. on Japan in World War II, died yesterday at 93. He was on a business trip in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 when the first one exploded less than two miles away. The next day, he drove back to his hometown of Nagasaki and was telling his boss about the first bomb when the second fell. His obituary in today’s New York Times contains this line: “[His daughter] said he had recently been visited by the American film director James Cameron to discuss a film project on atomic bombs.”
