The Producer’s Guild of America just announced its ten nominations for Best Picture. Among them are the usual suspects (Up in the Air, Avatar, Hurt Locker) and a couple of surprises. Namely: freakin’ Star Trek and District 9! The PGA has a pretty solid track record in predicting Oscar’s Best Picture nominees (though last year they did let The Dark Knight in there), but would the sci-fi averse Academy really snub films like Nine, The Messenger, or A Serious Man in favor of summer-released geek bait? We are skeptical.
