Zach Galifianakis to Grant Paul Rudd Free Will

Heavenly Creatures: Zach Galifianakis and Paul Rudd are coming together to star in Paramount’s Demetri Martin–penned comedy, Will. The story takes place in a world where people’s lives are determined by writers in heaven. One day a guy (Rudd) wakes up to find that his writer (Galifianakis) has dropped the ball on his script, leaving the guy to live out his fantasies of riding go-karts, playing Ms. Pac Man, and other man-child things. Star Man: With one remake of an overseas film already under his belt, Chris Rock will tackle another with a remake of the French film La Premiere Etoile. The original was about a black family on vacation in a hoity-toity ski resort, where the snobs don’t welcome them. This sounds like the perfect time for Rock to cast Bobb’e J. Thompson as his wise-cracking son. [Variety]

Found: J.J. Abrams has found the female half of his undercover husband-and-wife spy team. British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw will star with Boris Kodjoe in Undercovers as a married couple that’s reactivated by the CIA after years in retirement. Abrams is planning to direct, something he hasn’t done since a little show you might remember called Lost. [HR]

Un-Rom Com: Seth Gordon, who last sat in a folding director’s chair on the set of Four Christmases, is in negotiations to direct Celeste and Jesse Forever, a comedy about a couple that tries to maintain a friendship as they reenter the dating world. Rashida Jones is starring in the film that she co-wrote with Will McCormack, who won’t star because he’s not famous enough. [HR]

Space Man: Kevin Spacey has signed on to star in director Dayyan Eng’s comedy Inseparable. The film will be shot in Mandarin and English and center on a young man who makes friends with a mysterious American expat (Spacey). It’s like an all-dude version of Lost in Translation. [Variety]
