R. Kelly Defends His Yodeling

Surprised by his fans’ confused reaction to the yodeling in his new single, “Echo,” R. Kelly threw on some glasses and recorded this video, wherein the Pied Piper explains the Alpine-born singing technique is “something you can do just to have fun.” Also, he points out, “Echo” — in which lovemaking is compared to climbing a mountain — isn’t even the first song he’s yodeled in: “[1995’s] ‘Step in My Room’ — I did a yodel on that,” he says. (It must have been a subtle yodel, because we can’t hear it.) In the end, Kellz says, he was just trying to “take my music someplace else — and it’s respecting people that yodel, as well.” We hope this clears everything up, haters.
