At the Movies Cancelled After 24-Year Run

At the Movies, the syndicated movie review show in its 24th season, will end after this season, distributor Disney-ABC announced today. The program, formerly known as Siskel & Ebert and Ebert & Roeper, will air its last episode this August.

Original host Roger Ebert took to his Twitter to mourn the show’s passing, blaming not current hosts A.O. Scott (The New York Times) and Michael Phillips (The Chicago Tribune) (a duo Ebert tweeted could be “very proud of their work”), but instead calling out previous host Ben Lyons (E!), who co-hosted the show with Ben Mankiewicz (Sirius Satellite Radio) from September 2008 to August 2009.

At the Movies’ producer David Plummer, a veteran from the S&E&R days, did a great job. Ben Lyons was not his fault,” Ebert wrote. “Ben Mankiewicz, a good guy who knew his stuff, was an innocent bystander in the At the Movies situation.”

Even via Twitter, Ebert’s clearly still able to deliver a stinging two thumbs down.
