CBS Remains Dominant, Again Most-Watched Network

For the seventh time in the last eight years, CBS was the most-watched network this 2009-2010 television season, averaging 11.77 million viewers. The network also had seven of the ten most-watched shows of the year, including NCIS, The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, and The Good Wife. However, Fox — which also earned its sixth straight victory in overall ratings — was the top network in viewers in the coveted 18 to 49 demo, buoyed by the popularity of American Idol and Glee among the younger crowd, which makes it somewhat surprising that the slate of new shows due this fall is comprised of more Friends knockoffs than feel-good musicals.
