Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence gave a great interview to Alan Sepinwall about how his show morphed from one about cougars, to one about “a dysfunctional group of friends and family.” Since the title is now wildly misleading, Lawrence would like to change it, something ABC might be down to do because Cougar Town tests badly and doesn’t jibe with the obviously family friendly title Modern Family. One of his suggestions: “I always joke that the show should be called Friends and Neighbors, but the Friends part should be written in the same font as Courtney’s old show.” Fortunately, Lawrence did not suggest Cougar Town should also repurpose the Friends theme song.
