Sweet St. Louis: Vince Vaughn and director David O. Russell will likely team up on Old St. Louis. The film, written by Russell, tells the story of a traveling salesman and absentee father (Vaughn) whose life changes when “his daughter becomes part of his life” (shades of Somewhere, no?). Kick-Ass star Chloe Moretz - who is quickly becoming the new Dakota Fanning - has been mentioned as a possibility for the daughter role. [Deadline]
Good Robot: J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot has picked up the rights to Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel, a movie adaptation of the graphic novel by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett about a robot in the Victorian Age. Boilerplate follows the “world’s first robot,” who - get ready - “in the late 19th and early 20th centuries… fought alongside Teddy Roosevelt and Lawrence of Arabia, journeyed to the South Pole and was involved in the silent movie business before disappearing on the battlefields of World War I.” [Heat Vision/HR]
LCD Chip: Labelmates LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip will be hitting the road together, embarking on a tour of the U.K. and U.S. Right now, the only announced show in the U.S. is October 22 in Milwaukee, but more will (hopefully) be announced soon. [Pitchfork]
Party On: HBO is teaming with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s production company to develop a comedy series project starring Lizzy Caplan (Party Down, True Blood). The series is based on Julie Klausner’s memoir I Don’t Care About Your Band, a “gritty but comedic look at what it’s like to navigate the dating world in your 20s.” Lizzy Caplan continuing to appear on TV is a very good thing. Dark Day: Henry Cavill (The Tudors) will star in The Cold Light of Day, a kidnapping thriller directed by Mabrouk El Mechri. The film follows a “cocky young Wall Street trader” whose family is kidnapped during their Spain vacation. He finds himself in a “government conspiracy” and is forced to “unravel his father’s darkest secret” to save the family. One more of these Vacation Gone Wrong flicks and we’ve got a trend, guys. L.A. Bound: Corey Stoll (Salt) has scored the detective co-starring role opposite Skeet Ulrich in NBC’s upcoming Law & Order: Los Angeles. Stoll will play TJ Jaruszalski, a “confident Hollywood native with a cynical view of the entertainment industry, a health nut with an active social life.” Sounds like a real cool dude. [Deadline]
