Guess Who Wrote Cee-Lo’s Awesome ‘Fuck You’?

By now your mother may well have e-mailed you Cee-Lo’s out-of-nowhere-but-suddenly-everywhere new single “Fuck You,” released on Friday but already so ubiquitous it’s being utilized as the cornerstone for various funny YouTube videos. Maybe you’d already heard “Georgia,” Cee-Lo’s first single from his upcoming solo album, The Lady Killer; talked up the album’s blockbuster potential to your friends; and are now basking in the glow of pop-prediction accuracy. And in this season of “California Gurls” domination, it may have just warmed your heart that such a great song from such a respected artist (you, too, probably love Goodie Mob’s first album) would have reached mass awareness. And now, allow us to just ever so slightly color your opinion.

You know Bruno Mars? The guy who wrote B.o.B.’s cheesy hit “Nothin’ on You” and Travie McCoy’s cheesy hit “Billionaire”? Yeah, he co-wrote “Fuck You,” too. The hook on “Fuck You.” EW reports:

“F—- You” was born almost two years into the recording of Cee Lo’s third solo album, The Lady Killer, which is now due Dec. 7. During a session in L.A. with hitmakers Bruno Mars and Phil Lawrence, they let him hear a rough sketch of a song they weren’t sure was worth completing. “When Bruno first sung ‘F—- You’ to me, they were still a bit indecisive on whether or not it could work at all,” he says. “I was like, ‘I like it. Let’s record it.’”

If you previously had an opinion on Bruno Mars, it is now time to adjust it.
