Rubber Trailer; or, the Classiest Film About a Psychotic Tire Ever

Without a doubt, Rubber is the best movie about a murderous, psychic tire named Robert that has ever been made. That it is the only movie about a murderous, psychic tire named Robert that has ever been made (there was, you’ll recall, that movie about the depressive, psychic tire Estelle), and that this is a wholly ridiculous premise for a movie, should not count against it. We weren’t sure after the teaser trailer — and we have to account for the possibility that Robert is messing with our minds — but … this movie looks kind of great? It sure is pretty. (Firestone, consider hiring the preposterously named director Quentin Dupieux for your next commericial, kay?), and the whole absurdist, deadpan comedy is working for us, at least in this small, not so gorey two-minute dose. At full length, the whole thing might be trying way, way too hard, but here it looks like the rare complete and utter shlockfest executed with a rigorous professionalism. Robert! Maybe you can team up with Sylvester Stallone for the sequel?
