So after months in previews, it took last week’s critical flaying to get Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark to deal with its mess of a story line. The musical has just hired Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a Big Love writer who has also done Spider-Man comics for Marvel, to rewrite Julie Taymor’s book. It’s still a smart move (even if it should have happened months ago). And while we don’t know how fast Aguirre-Sacasa works, if he’s going to do any serious fixing, the musical probably won’t be making its March 15 “opening” either. Sixth opening date’s a charm?
