Midnight in Paris Trailer: Woody Allen’s France, Populated by Americans

The City of Lights is its own character in Woody Allen’s next film, Midnight in Paris, and that’s a good thing, because it’s just about the only French element in this new trailer. Allen’s latest is about engaged couple Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams, who travel to Paris and mostly hang out with other Americans, including Michael Sheen (McAdams’s real-life beau). Somewhere along the way, Owen Wilson becomes obsessed with taking walks. This, so near as we can figure, is the plot. Is there more to the movie that the trailer isn’t telling us? We hope so, as the laugh lines are awfully wimpy, Marion Cotillard appears for only a split second (while Kathy Bates and Adrien Brody don’t appear at all), and the sole French-accented line comes from the film’s much-hyped cast member Carla Bruni. (At least she spent her cameo baguette-less!)
