Dionne Warwick — along with a surviving member of the girl group the Shirelles — is suing the producers of the new musical Baby It’s You for featuring her as a character in their play without her permission. The show tells the story of Frances Greenberg, the New Jersey housewife who discovered the Shirelles and started Scepter Records. The show stings especially hard because Warwick and many of the other artists who were signed to Greenberg’s label feel they were never fairly compensated to begin with. “They did get taken advantage of, and now they have to watch and live through it a second time,” said Warwick’s lawyer Oren Warshavsky. “It’s terribly disappointing to see it happen again.” [NYP]
