Given the Spider Man: Turn off the Dark of it all, it would be hard to knock Julie Taymor for eschewing interviews. It would also be hard to knock her for eschewing musicals. But there she was last night at the premiere of the documentary Project Nim, batting away questions about Spider-Man — “Oh, I don’t want to talk about Spider-man” — doing interviews, and talking about her upcoming projects, “three to four different movies … all movie musicals.” Taymor told us she’s considering filming Juan Darién, which she staged for the theater before, as well as Transposed Heads, a musical she’s been working on with her partner, the composer Elliot Goldenthal, and Flying Dutchman, which has been in the works since at least 1998. As for the matter of her last musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, Taymor told us, “I had a great time when it was great. It was one of the most joyful experiences and my work is there and there it is. The main thing is I have not been paid, which you know. I would like to get paid, so that will be good.”
