Arnold Schwarzenegger to Film Last Stand in September

In April, Arnold Schwarzenegger was ready to end his acting hiatus with Jee-Woon Kim’s The Last Stand, which would represent his first starring role since leaving his post as governor of California. Then, in May, Schwarzenegger’s incipient comeback hit a major setback when it was revealed that he fathered a child with his housekeeper, which prompted his wife, Maria Shriver, to file for divorce. “Governor Schwarzenegger is focusing on personal matters, and is not willing to commit to any production schedules or timelines,” a rep for the actor said then, but not even two months later, Deadline reports that Schwarzenegger has given Last Stand the all-clear sign, and the Western (which casts him as an unusually Austrian-accented border sheriff) will begin shooting in September. Lionsgate will release the movie sometime next year, which means it may go up against Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, another action-packed Western starring an Austrian actor (in this case, Christoph Waltz). Anyone care to announce a third project and make it 2012’s oddest trend? [Deadline]
