Before this week, the most a movie had ever made at the midnight box office was $30 million, the tally taken home by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on the Thursday night of its opening weekend. The first installment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows couldn’t quite break that record — it took in “just” $24 million — but Part II shattered it last night, earning a jaw-dropping $43.5 million at its midnight shows.
