Daryl Hannah was arrested outside the White House today while protesting against Keystone XL, the planned oil pipeline that would run from Canada to Texas. “We want to be free from the horrible death and destruction that fossil fuels cause, and have a clean energy future,” she said before her arrest, which is a very poignant thought from the star of Shark Swarm. She was arrested alongside other activists from Tar Sands Action, who’ve been staging sit-ins in front of the White House for weeks; according to the organization’s site, over 500 people have been arrested since August 20 as part of the protests. And yet Hannah, who has been arrested on several occasions while advocating for environmental causes, is the first to make a splash. Ho, ho. [NBC]
