When former Will & Grace star Sean Hayes attempts to return to TV with a new NBC sitcom in the 2012–13 TV season, it will be as a gay dad. The show, which is being developed specifically for Hayes and was just announced at the Television Critics Association press tour, will be about a couple of dads raising a 12-year-old kid. NBC is also bringing on Rescue Me co-creator Peter Tolan as writer and executive producer of the show, which would mark a significant step forward in the portrayal of gay couples on broadcast TV — and possibly deny Cam and Mitch an eventual spinoff. Of course, it has to actually make it to air first. [Inside TV/EW]
