When the Internet campaign began to get Donald Glover cast as Spider-Man, comic-book purists carped that the Community actor looked nothing like the white web-slinger. That was then, and this is now: Marvel Comics announced today that in its Ultimate Spider-Man series (which is sort of an alternate universe to the main Spider-Man story line), the new lead will be Miles Morales, a half-black and half-Hispanic teenager inspired to follow in the footsteps of the deceased Peter Parker. Writer Brian Michael Bendis says he came up with the makeover independent of the Glover fan campaign, but when he saw the actor wearing Spider-Man pajamas on an episode of Community, he knew he was on the right track. The move did not go unnoticed by Glover, who tweeted to Bendis today, “just wanted to say ‘wow’ and thank you for doing something really cool and interesting! You’re tops.” [Grio]
